I am pretty sure it is doable, but the truck is tiny, so it got me wondering.
It’s 232 is in excellent shape, but I have always wanted an AMC 360.
Probably keep the 232 in case my Cherokees 242 goes bad.

You sure can. You can even get all "stock" parts to do it. My 79 CJ came from the factory with a V8.
The 304, 360, and the 401 will all fit in the CJ-5
why go for the 360 the 390 will fit the same and it has WAY more power butt yes the 360 will fit you will just have to change the mounts out for the v8 configuration
