Well, depending on the severity of the issue, it could be anywhere from $20 to $200 (plus labor). I recently had a gasket fail in my transfer case, and it was about a $20 fix. However, I later replaced the transfer case in my dad’s Grand Cherokee because his original one was failing in general. The cost of the new (used) transfer case was $200, and labor was free since I did it myself. It all depends on what’s wrong.

I would recommend taking it to a reputable mechanic and initially finding out what’s wrong. He’ll give you an estimate, and I’d go from there. Hopefully it’s an easy fix and will be relatively cheap, but it all depends. If you find out what’s wrong, post up another question and I’m sure the yahoo community will tell you if you’re getting scammed or a good deal.

    Hope this helps!
