Is a 2.8 liter DOHC S-6 motor out of a 1992 Mercedes Benz 300 S a good swap for my 1978 Jeep CJ-7?

My old motor blew and I know where I can get one of these engines for free(only needs timing belt/chain and oil pan gasket!). Is it true what owner said about parts for these engines being way over priced and hard to get?
I LOVE straight 6 motors. That’s the other reason for me wanting it.

Sure I don’t see any problem, the layout would fit your Jeep real nice and you would be getting Mercedes reliability. Whoever told you Benz parts are way overpriced and hard to get doesn’t know what they are dealing with. Benz parts cost more because they are better and last far far longer than the other more humble brands out there that don’t have a reputation to uphold.

Of course the parts are way overpriced…just like all the bmw’s, mercedes, audi’s, and all that…but it doesnt mean its a bad swap. You have to look at the condition of the engine, estimate the cost for repairs…if it comes out to a lot then just swap for a chevy 350 engine like most people do…or what i would suggest is find a nice diesel engine.
