Bronco Peak is a short trail that is situated within the Corral Canyon OHV area and is located just south of I-8 near to the town of Alpine or about half an hour east of El Cajon. According to the Southern California Back Roads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails book by Charles Wells, Bronco Peak is an difficult rated nasty hardcore trail very steep with tight brush large boulders and that several places are steep enough to cause a rollover if driver is not careful front and rear lockers are recommended. And, even thought its only 2.7 miles long, it is also recommended that you allow about 2 hours to complete it and more if you are going with a bigger group. Being that this trail was so short, our group of 3 Jeep JK Unlimited Rubicons, 2 JK Unlimited Saharas and 2 JK 2-Doors Xs decided to first run another short but difficult rated trail nearby trail called Sidewinder. Unfortunately, it would also be the only trail that a majority of our group would do.

amazing video btw!

LOL!! the 1st flat was caused by a rubbing issue unknown to the driver. the 2nd was caused by a bolt he picked up in his tread on the trail – totally a fluke. the drive shaft and axle breaks were caused by an inexperienced driver and one that was way too heavy on the gas. the track bar mount break was caused by a prototype bracket that was missing a bolt. needless to say, most of these were avoidable failures.

forgot to bring a welder. after tearing the track bar mount off the frame, i needed something to help hold things in place. without it, i would have had no steering what so ever.

that we come from a lesser than average income but we make the most of what we have. I just think jeeps are the greatest vehicles on the planet. Its a way of life of course. I am currently 17 and im lookin into buyin one soon, well hopefully i have to work for it. I want a yj now partly because they are the cheapest but i also find them to be my favorite kind. But hopefully in the future i would love to own a jk. Anyway this turned out to be longer than i wanted but congrats ur all doin great.

I just want to say that I think this “club” and the people in general are great. You guys just look so closely knitted it looks so laid back and fun. I’ve been into jeeps ever since i was a child. I grew up in a hispanic household in the throgsneck section of the bronx and we had a couple jeeps in the fam. My father owned a 1986 cj-7, my uncle mark owns a cj-5/ 92 wrangler s, and uncle ray owns a sahara yj, a friend jr, owns a 94 yj and my cousin owns a tj. They are not really modified being

i love TJ’s and had one for 10 years before selling it last year. they are good jeeps but hands down, a JK is way better on road AND off. in fact, the JK is so much better, i replaced my old built up TJ with 6″ long arms, lockers and 37″ tires for another JK – seriously.

buddy of mine had one on his tj before selling it. he hated the ride and the rear 3-link broke on him. i wouldn’t recommend it.

use your e-brake. depending on how steep of a hill or rock you are on, it will hold or hold just enough. keep your hand on the e-brake and as you start letting off the clutch/applying gas, wait till you start to feel it move forward and slowly let the e-brake down. this will also help you to keep your rpm’s down and clutch burning to a minimum.

Either nothing or your brakes.. most of the time you WILL coast back a little before going forwards…

When climbing in a manual, lets say you stop, and you want to keep going, what prevents you from rolling back wards right before your plates engage?

for the extra cost i can do it myself and save a hell of a lot of money. just not worth having jeep do it when you can add better stuff for cheaper. for what i paid for my base jk, a rubicon was 10,000 more. for half the price i can build a better rig than a rubicon
